NORTH SHELBY – The phenomenal season by the Westminster School at Oak Mountain Knights continued as they wrapped up a perfect run through area play.

The Knights defeated the Cornerstone Schools of Alabama Eagles 3-1 on senior night on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Westminster School at Oak Mountain to seal an undefeated 6-0 record against Class 2A, Area 9 teams.

As a result, Westminster OM will host the area tournament on Friday, Oct. 18 as the No. 1 seed. The team will face Holy Family Catholic in the semifinals with a trip to the north super regionals on the line.

The Knights got off to a strong start in the match as they established a commanding lead and didn’t let up in the opening frame.

Westminster OM used that advantage to claim a 25-12 victory in the first set, and the 13-point win put the hosts up 1-0 in the match.

From there, the Knights took their momentum and channeled it into a dominant second set.

Westminster OM went on a big run in the set and pulled away for a commanding lead. The team went on to win 25-6, which put it a set away from a perfect area record.

However, the Knights had to overcome some adversity in the form of a Cornerstone comeback.

The Eagles rallied to make the third set a tightly-contested affair. While Westminster OM had a chance to wrap up the match, Cornerstone secured a 25-23 victory to extend the match into a fourth set.

The Knights retook control of the match from there and took care of business. After getting in front in the fourth set, they saw out the 25-18 win to seal the 3-1 match victory and wrap up their 6-0 area record.

Adde Wright led Westminster OM with seven kills in the match. Reese Robbins was strong up front with six kills and three blocks. Ellie Tankersley also finished the match with 21 assists.

The Knights will wrap up the regular season on the road as they travel to Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa for a tri-match on Wednesday, Oct. 9. There, they will face the Class 7A Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Patriots at 4:30 p.m. before battling Tuscaloosa Academy at 5:30 p.m.
