In their search to gain momentum heading into the postseason, the Thompson Warriors are rolling thanks to back-to-back straight-set victories.

After defeating the Homewood Patriots 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Warrior Arena, the Warriors came out victorious in their final area match of the season with a 3-0 road win over the Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Patriots on Monday, Oct. 7 at Hillcrest High School.

With multiple former players in attendance on Thursday in the match with the Patriots, Thompson faced a stiff test from its Class 6A opposition in the opening set.

After the teams were tied 24-24 down the stretch, they traded four straight points before the Warriors stepped up and took control.

Thompson claimed the first set win by a score of 28-26, and that set the tone for the rest of the match.

The Warriors got the upper hand in the second set as well and went on to see out the victory in the set.

With a 25-21 win, Thompson held off Homewood for the second-straight set and was in prime position to seal the match win from there.

The Warriors continued trending up in the third set and secured their largest win of the entire match.

Thompson secured the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 victory in the third set to end the week in the win column.

That gave the Warriors plenty of positives to take into their final area match of the season, a rescheduled road trip to Hillcrest High School on Monday, Oct. 7 to face one of Class 7A’s newest teams in the Patriots.

This time, Thompson jumped out to a more comfortable lead and cruised from there.

The Warriors ended up winning the first set by double-digits, claiming a 25-15 win over the Patriots to go up 1-0 in the match.

The second set proved to be the closest of the match as Hillcrest got within a handful of points of taking the lead, but Thompson held strong against the challenge.

That led to a 25-21 win for the Warriors and put them just a set win away from sealing the match.

With all of the wind in their sails and momentum behind them, Thompson took command and left no room for the Patriots to get a foothold in the third set.

Eventually, the Warriors won 25-13 to earn the 3-0 sweep to close out area play.

With the win, the Warriors will be the No. 3 seed in the Class 7A, Area 5 tournament. They will face No. 2 Hoover on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Oak Mountain High School with the winner advancing to the north super regionals at the Finley Center in Hoover.

Thompson will finish out its home slate with a tri-match on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as the team takes on the Sylacauga Aggies and Vestavia Hills Rebels at Warrior Arena.
