HARTSELLE – The Pelham Panthers secured a pair of wins in a quad match at Hartselle High School as they gear up for their final regular season area matches.

Pelham swept both the Mountain Brook Spartans and Hartselle Tigers 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 28 before losing 2-0 to the Hazel Green Trojans to end the day with a 2-1 record.

The Panthers got off to a flying start to their match against the Spartans as they got out to a big lead in the first set and didn’t look back.

Pelham secured the 25-14 win in the opening frame, and that victory set the stage for more success in the match.

Mountain Brook drew within a handful of points of the lead in the second set, but the Panthers saw out the 25-20 win, taking the 2-0 sweep in the process.

Camryn McMinn lead the offense with 14 kills and also had five digs and two total blocks. Londyn Wynn secured nine kills, six digs and an ace. Kylee Hester had 24 assists and two aces.

Kamryn Rouveyrol earned 12 digs and three aces, Aubrie Smith had four kills, Caroline Hamby got four digs and Addison Knight secured two aces.

Pelham then took on the hosts Hartselle in the next game of the quad match.

The Panthers once again started on the right foot in the match as they held off the Tigers to claim the opening set win.

With Hartselle at an arm’s length, Pelham won the first set 25-18 to go up 1-0 in the match.

That win paved the way for the Panthers to dominant the following set and secure the victory.

Pelham went on a big run in the second set and used it to pull away for the win. The team won the set 25-7 for their fourth consecutive set victory.

Wynn had the highest kill total with seven and added four digs. McMinn earned five kills, six digs and an ace, and Hester had 10 assists, eight digs and two aces.

Rouveyrol led the team in digs with 12 and also secured five assists. Ryleigh Deaver had the most blocks with three total blocks as well as three kills and Aubrie Smith also earned multiple blocks with two total. Caroline Hamby finished with five digs.

The Panthers then found themselves in a battle with Hazel Green to finish out the day in Hartselle.

After starting out the quad match by winning the opening set in the first two matches, Pelham slipped behind in the first set against the Trojans and ended up dropping the set.

Hazel Green took the win in the first set 25-19, giving the team the upper hand in the match.

The Panthers rallied in the second set to take it down to the wire, and they were just one point away from taking the set to extra points.

However, the Trojans won match point to take the set 25-23 and earn the sweep.

Wynn and McMinn combined for 26 kills in two sets as Wynn earned 16 kills and McMinn had 10 kills as well as nine digs and two aces. Hester racked up 25 assists and Rouveyrol secured eight digs.

Pelham’s next two matches will be its last two area matches. First, the Panthers will travel to the Helena Huskies on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. before a road trip to Spain Park on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
