WOODLAWN – The Vincent Yellow Jackets came into Thursday night, Sept. 26’s area match against the Cornerstone Schools of Alabama Eagles on a tear as winners of their last three matches in a row.

That included a five-set thriller against the Eagles at home on Monday, Sept. 23, setting the table for a rematch three days later with area positioning on the line.

Vincent put together a dominant showing in the return matchup to secure a 3-0 sweep on the road at Cornerstone Schools of Alabama, extending its win streak to four matches in a row and finishing the week with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Jackets raced ahead in the first two sets to take command of the match and used those victories to set up the sweep.

Vincent was in control in the first set and took advantage of its large lead to see out the win. In the end, the Jackets won 25-10 to go up 1-0 in the match.

That set up an even larger victory in the second set as Vincent went on a run that established itself once again as the favorite.

The Jackets eventually won the set 25-7, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

From there, the Eagles mounted their response and made the third set close, but it proved to be too little, too late for the hosts.

Vincent held off its area foe in the final points of the set and won 25-21 to seal the 3-0 sweep.

With the win, the Jackets claimed the win in the regular season series by taking both matches against Cornerstone.

Vincent is now 3-2 in area play as it looks to chase down one of the top spots in Class 2A, Area 9 ahead of the area tournament.

With a four-match win streak now in tow, the Jackets will hope to keep their winning ways going with another stretch of back-to-back matches next week.

Vincent will first hit the road to Altamont for an area matchup with the Knights on Monday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m., and then it will host the B.B. Comer Tigers on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at Vincent Middle High School.
