LANETT – The Coosa Valley Rebels couldn’t keep up with the Springwood Wildcats as a quick start led to a 58-14 win for the Wildcats on Sept. 20.

Springwood scored 37 points in the opening quarter and shutout Coosa Valley during the same time to sprint ahead to a big lead that the Rebels couldn’t recover from.

Coosa Valley did get on the scoreboard after that as Jordin Rogers ran it in from 25 yards out to make the score 37-6 with six minutes left in the second quarter.

Three minutes later though, the Wildcats answered with their own rushing touchdown and tacked on a 2-point conversion to take a 45-6 lead into halftime.

The scoring pace slowed down from the first half as the teams settled into the game. Springwood added to its lead midway through the third quarter, scoring on the ground and adding an extra point for the 52-6 lead, which it took into the start of the fourth.

From there, the Wildcats tacked on six more points with one last rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 58-6 with 10 minutes to go.

However, the Rebels finished strong and found the end zone in the dying moments of the game. Rhett Johnson punched it in from a yard out to score on his lone rush of the day, and Rogers added a 2-point conversion run to make the final score 58-14.

Landon Payton took 18 carries from the quarterback spot for 151 yards, and he went 3-for-13 passing for 49 yards but gave up two interceptions. Rogers took two of his passes for 40 yards, and Jake McArthur caught the other for nine yards.

Rogers also finished the game with four carries for 36 yards, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion while surrendering a fumble.

Payton also finished with two tackles on the defensive side while McArthur secured one as well.

Coosa Valley drops to 1-3 with the loss and will look to bounce back when it hosts Evangel Christian Academy of Montgomery on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Coosa Valley Academy.
