HELENA – The Helena Diamond Club will tee it off in October to help the Huskies keep swinging at their best next spring.

The fifth annual Helena Diamond Club Golf tournament is set for this Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

“We are very excited about our fifth annual Diamond Club golf tournament coming up on Oct. 14.” Helena varsity baseball coach PJ Guy said. “Over the last four years, this tournament has raised a lot of money for both baseball and softball as we continue to try to grow both programs.”

The tournament will help raise money for Helena High School’s baseball and softball booster clubs, which help with expenses for fields, equipment, uniforms and other needs.

Participants will be divided into morning and afternoon groups with respective tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and play a four-person scramble format. Breakfast will be served before the 8 a.m. tee time and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

The cost for entry is $125 per person and $500 for a foursome, and the cost includes a golf cart rental, breakfast, lunch and a goodie bag which includes a sleeve of Helena-branded golf balls.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to meet coaches and alumni from both programs ahead of the season.

With the tournament supporting both the baseball and softball programs, many people from both programs have worked each year to make the tournament a reality, and the coaches are grateful for their hard work to keep the tournament an annual tradition.

“Our booster club and parents from both programs have worked great together to make this our best fundraiser each year,” Guy said. “It’s always a great day of fun, and we appreciate all the work everyone does to make this successful. We hope we can continue to make this a yearly thing for a long time.”

That collaboration is one of Helena varsity softball coach Mark Sanders’ favorite parts of the tournament. He is encouraged by how both programs work together to help each other succeed.

“I love what the HHS Diamond Club Golf Tournament means to our programs financially, but in addition to that, it’s encouraging to see two high school programs come together, collaborate together and help each other’s program grow and strive for excellence on and off the field of play,” Sanders said.
