The City of Montevallo and The University of Montevallo Foundation will receive a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile toward improvements to the Grainger Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic. 

The grant will be used to make improvements to the playground, which provides an additional amenity to community residents in Alabama seeking free mental health services.

Montevallo Mayor Rusty Nix said the city is proud to partner with the Grainger Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic along with the University of Montevallo, Shelby County and the Grainger family. 

“T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program funding for the clinic’s leveling, fencing, outdoor sensory playground materials and accessible parking is perfect for Montevallo because the project touches on many of our focus areas, including health care, education and community development,” Nix said. 

At the University of Montevallo’s annual “Pack the Sac” event there will be an official check presentation in recognition of the grant. The event will take place of Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at the Student Activity Center on campus. 

Shelby County’s County Manager Chad Scroggins said they are “excited about T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program” in partnership with the University’s Grainger Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic. 

“We are thankful to see T-Mobile come along side us and assist with improving our community,” Scroggins said. 

The grant will provide improvements to the counseling center including sensory playground materials and improvements to accessible parking. 

Montevallo is the 12th city in Alabama to be awarded a T-Mobile Hometown Grant since the program’s launch in 2021. The other towns which include Atmore, Northport, Fairfield, Springville and Jacksonville have received grants in total of more than $445,000.
