CALERA – Eric Boutwell started the season with a bang for the University of Montevallo Falcons and will now have his name in the Timberline Golf Club record books.

Boutwell shot a 60 in the first round of the Full Moon Invitational at Timberline Golf Club in Calera on Monday, Sept. 9.

With the score, Boutwell tied the course record at Timberline and broke the record for the lowest single-round score in Montevallo program history. The single-round program record was last set during the 2017-18 season.

He got off to a strong start to the round by shooting an 8-under-par score of 28 on the front nine. From there, he shot 3-under-par on the back nine, leading to his final score of an 11-under-par 60. He went the entire round without shooting a bogey or worse.

Boutwell is now tied for the Timberline record with Sam Love, a former PGA Tour golfer, Birmingham native and UAB golfer.

After taking a nine-stroke lead in the individual competition after the first day, Boutwell shot a 3-under-par 68 in the second round. That secured the individual victory with a 14-under-par score of 128, which was also a Montevallo record for the lowest tournament score.

Boutwell also led the Falcons A team to a win in the team competition with a score of 9-under-par, 17 strokes ahead of second-place Union at 8-over-par.

He closed out the whirlwind week with another major honor as he was named the Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Player of the Week.

A senior from Russellville, Alabama, Boutwell qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II South Region championship and was a First Team All-GSC selection after he finished tied-for-second at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Championships. He averaged a score of 71.4 across the 27 rounds in his junior season.

Boutwell and the Falcons will return to action on Sept. 22-24 at the Statesman Classic in West Point, Mississippi.
