PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library is hosting a special event for the spooky season.

A wand making class for teen and tween wizards is set for Thursday, Oct. 10 from 4:30-6 p.m. for those in grades six through 12.

“October is a great time for fans of the spooky season to come create something fun,” Library Director Mary Campbell said. “We host multiple teen events each month, and generally try to have a seasonal themed event once a month.”

Campbell added that the library has hosted this event for the past several years and it has proven to be very popular and it is always a fun time for those in middle and high school.

“It is a chance for teens to be around others their own age and relax and be creative,” Campbell said. “This also gives us a chance to provide some more elaborate craft supplies that are geared specifically towards this age group.”

While the event isn’t specifically themed around a certain popular wizard, Campbell said it’s great for fans of Harry Potter or any other fantasy series.

When guests arrive, they will select their wand base, along with all of the supplies needed to decorate the wand however they would like.

“Once the wands are complete, they can practice some friendly charms with their new personalized wands,” Campbell said. “Of course, all this wand making can work up an appetite, so light snacks will be provided.”

Rebecca Thrasher Burchfield, children’s supervisor at the library, said the teens get very creative with their wands.

They come up with some intricate designs for their wands that look really fantastic,” Burchfield said.

Registration is required for this program and can be completed on the library’s website at Pelham.librarycalendar.com/event/wand-making-class-teen-tween-wizards-6127.
