Shoemaker’s second win in two weeks highlights county performances at Chickasaw

OAKVILLE – The Oak Mountain Eagles, Spain Park Jaguars and Westminster School at Oak Mountain Knights took on some of the best talent from around the Southeast at the Chickasaw Trails Invitational, but one name rose above the rest for the second week in a row.

Oak Mountain senior John Shoemaker earned his second win of the young season in the boys Large School 5K with a time of 15:01.00 on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Oakville Indian Mounds Park.

Shoemaker led the way for the Eagles scoring runners as Zack Joyce took 27th place with a time of 16:22.73, Isaac Glorioso came in 31st with a time of 16:26.74, Luke Marvin earned 39th place with a time of 16:39.33 and Sam Trammell finished in 46th place with a time of 16:45.17.

Cooper Jeffcoat also earned a top-50 finish with his 49th-place time of 16:47.20, and Whitt Kilgore finished just outside the top 50 in 51st place with a time of 16:50.21. That helped the Eagles finish in sixth place in the team standings.

Brody Ahlemeyer brought home a top-25 finish for Spain Park as he came in 23rd place with a time of 16:18.51.

Other times for the Jags included Luca Zellner in 139th place with a time of 18:36.46, Caleb Landers in 140th place with a time of 18:37.02 and Stephen Schneider in 142nd place with a time of 18:37.12 as all three teammates finished within a second of each other.

Westminster OM finished in 15th place as a team in the Large School standings thanks to three finishes in the top 100.

Weaver Caldwell came in 68th place with a time of 17:01.51, Daniel Vansant finished 79th with a time of 17:13.13 and Charlie Krulak took 93rd place with a time of 17:33.58.

Oak Mountain’s Ava Fields finished in 10th place in the girls Large School 5K, crossing the line with a time of 19:10.36. Catarina Williams joined her in the top 25 with a 22nd-place time of 19:43.44 to help her team come in fifth in the team standings.

Other notable times for the Eagles included Hayley Datema in 36th place with a time of 20:13.44, Faith Scardino in 37th place with a time of 20:14.96, Brighton Bell in 68th place with a time of 21:23.01 and Joy Damron in 69th place with a time of 21:26.03.

Like the boys, the Westminster OM girls finished in 15th in the team standings.

The Knights were led by Emily Mungai in 34th place with a time of 20:11.54. In addition, Sarah Adams came in 66th place with a time of 21:21.09 and McKenzie Bell finished right behind her in 67th place with a time of 21:22.85.
