FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Pelham School Resource Officer has been placed on administrative leave for alleged inappropriate messages.
In a release from the Pelham Police Department on Saturday, Sept. 7, authorities said the SRO was placed on leave after a parent reached out about a student.
The parent shared that the former student had communicated via text messages with the Pelham Park Middle School Resource Officer.
According to the Pelham Police Department, the messages, which were from May of this year, “may be deemed inappropriate.”
“An immediate investigation into the allegations began on Wednesday evening and is ongoing,” read the release. “The Pelham Park Middle School Resource Officer was immediately placed on paid administrative leave and has not been at the school since Wednesday.”
PPD said at this time, there has been no indication that any physical contact occurred or was suggested.
“The primary concern for the Pelham Police Department and Pelham City Schools is the safety and security of our children,” PPD said. “The department is in constant contact with Pelham City Schools regarding this situation and continues to have an officer assigned to Pelham Park Middle School.”
Authorities said until the investigation is complete, no further information will be released.
