PELHAM – After a successful run at the Ironman in Huntsville, the Pelham Panthers continued their strong recent form with a pair of wins at a home tri-match on Thursday, Sept. 5 at Pelham High School.

The Panthers defeated the Jasper Vikings 2-0 before beating the Northridge Jaguars 2-1 to improve to 13-5 on the season.

Pelham started the afternoon against Jasper, a team that it had previously beat in the Juanita Boddie Bronze Bracket semifinals in a 2-0 win on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The Panthers picked up right where they left off from their last meeting and took control of the match from the very first set.

Pelham continued to pull away and ended up taking a 25-14 win to go up 1-0.

The Vikings fought back in the second set to make it a closer set, but it ended the same way as the previous three sets that they had shared the court in 2024.

In the end, the Panthers took a 25-18 win to sweep the match and get back to winning ways.

Camryn McMinn led the offense with 13 kills and three aces and also had six digs. Aubrie Smith finished with seven kills and two blocks. Londyn Wynn had six kills, Kamryn Rouveyrol earned six digs and two aces, Kaliyah Arrington took two blocks and Kylee Hester had 25 assists and seven digs.

Pelham then faced Northridge in another rematch from earlier in the season after the Panthers beat the Jags 2-0 in the Ironman on Friday, Aug. 30.

Less than a week later, they squared off again in Pelham High School, and this time, Northridge struck first.

A tight first set went down to the wire and needed multiple rounds of extra points to determine a winner. Eventually, the Jags took two straight points in the second round of extra points to earn the 27-25 win.

That was as much success as Northridge would have as the Panthers roared back to make a big statement in the second set.

Pelham took a big lead in the set and saw it out for a 25-11 win to tie up the match and force a decisive third set.

The Panthers took the momentum from the second-set win to claim another victory, and the final score of 15-8 meant that Pelham would beat Northridge for the second time in a week.

McMinn once again led with 20 kills and also had eight digs. Wynn secured 13 kills and seven digs, Hester had 31 assists and nine digs, Caroline Hamby finished with 11 kills and Rouveyrol earned 13 digs and three aces, both team highs.

The Panthers will look to extend their win streak at the Mayor’s Cup in Montgomery from Sept. 6-7.
