CALERA – After months of anticipation from Calera residents, the pickleball courts at Rolling Hills Conference Center and RV Park are officially open to the public.

Complete with a new parking lot, the three pickleball courts are open to the public from sunrise to sundown every day.

According to Director of Calera Parks and Recreation Seth Gandy, the pickleball courts have already experienced popularity with residents since they announced the opening on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

“The pickleball courts are finished and we’re extremely excited about it,” Gandy said. “There’s already been a ton of people playing on it. It’s something new to Calera. Something we haven’t had before.”

The city of Calera constructed the pickleball courts with the help of a grant provided by the Shelby County Commission’s Parks and Recreation Program which was announced in December 2023.

“We really can’t thank Shelby County enough for their partnership in this,” Gandy said. “We couldn’t have done it without their help.”

In addition, Gandy shared that the city of Calera currently has plans to construct more pickleball courts at the Eagle Sports Complex.

Members of the public can bring their pickleball gear down to the courts during Rolling Hills’ normal operating hours to enjoy the new facility.

The Rolling Hills Conference Center and RV Park spans over 80 acres and features a swimming pool, lake, conference center, family life center and youth building.
