CHELSEA – The third annual Bikes 4 Kids PCA Rodeo is heading back to Chelsea Sept. 27-28. The event will be held at 180 Chelsea Corners Way, the same area where The Big Kaboom is held.
According to organizer Charlie Bradford, last year’s event had a packed house both nights.
“We’re expecting a much larger crowd this year,” Bradford said in a Facebook post. “We’ll have food trucks and lots of vendors as well as a kids play area with inflatables. Bring the family out and enjoy some good family fun.”
The rodeo is presented by 3R Rodeo Company. The city of Chelsea makes a $10,000 donation to the event to assist with expenses.
Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer stated at an August meeting of the Chelsea City Council that while the Bikes 4 Kids Rodeo is not a city event, the council is willing to contribute in order to make the event happen for the residents. He added that the event fits nicely into the city’s schedule as its annual fall event.
Former 102.5 The Bull host and Country Music Radio Hall of Fame legend “Dollar” Bill Lawson will be the Grand Marshal both nights of the event. Guests can also enjoy live music by Shawn Lackey Music on Friday and Wednesday Night Special on Saturday.
Events will include bareback riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, Ranch bronc riding, break away roping, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
Gates open each night at 5 p.m. with mutton busting at 6:30 p.m. and the rodeo starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 per person, children 5 and under are free. Visit 3rrodeo.com or call 205-389-0585 for more information.
The weekend prior to the rodeo, there will be a Bikes4Kids Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a fundraiser to make room in the shop. It will feature items including bikes, tools, appliances, furniture and more and will be held at 9 Allen Drive, Chelsea.
“We have filled our building and need to clear it out to make room for remodel and cover some debt,” Bradford posted. “If you’d like to donate items to add to the sale, reach out. This will be an all-day event and we’ll have snacks and drinks as well.”
