MONTEVALLO — Following this summer’s successful photography contest that saw residents of Montevallo submit photos in exchange for potential prizes, Montevallo Main Street has announced a new contest in the hopes of getting residents out in the town and involved in the community.

Under the moniker of the “Snap It Scavenger Hunt,” Montevallo Main Street’s newest photo contest will not only task participants with taking pictures but also require them to visit specific landmarks and areas for a chance to win prizes.

“Each week during the month of September, three challenges will be shared on the Montevallo Main Street social media page,” read the rules of the contest. “Participants will complete the task and snap a picture with themselves included and post it to social media.”

The first week of the challenge, which concludes on Sept. 7, included the tasks of grabbing a drink at a local coffee shop, discovering a mural around town and exploring Orr Park with the intention of finding a wood carving in one of its many trees.

Contest organizers have stipulated that participants will need to tag Montevallo Main Street on their photos for their submissions to be recognized.

With the first week of September’s assignments already out in the wild, remaining prompts will be posted to the Montevallo Main Street’s Facebook page each Sunday of the month on Sept. 8, 15 and 22.

Two participants will be chosen out of all the weekly submissions at the end of each week to receive $25 gift card prizes.

This summer’s previous contest, which was named “For the Love of Main Street,” took place over the course of June and concluded in early July. That contest resulted in a total of 19 awards being given and a cash prize total of $800 being dispersed amongst winning participants.
