PELHAM – Students in Pelham will soon have another way to spend a few hours after school thanks to the implementation of a new club hosted by the Pelham Recreation Center.

“The goal of the club is to provide a venue for both the video game enthusiast and novice, accessible to all,” read a description of the program uploaded to the recreation center’s Facebook account.

Now open for registration, the Pelham Recreation Center’s brand-new E-Sports Club will invite middle-school-aged students to the facility located at 2020 Pelham Park Boulevard. There, students will be able to enjoy and play video games in a safe, controlled and age-appropriate environment.

The club, set to hold its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5, will be open to students that are specifically enrolled in grades 6-8. Homeschooled students of the same level and age are also welcome and encouraged to take part in the club.

Current meeting times are scheduled to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays—during weeks when school is in session—from 3-5 p.m.

The cost for student involvement in the club will be handled and charged on a monthly basis, with costs being $30 per month and in-person registration being required for participation.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact Kyle Downey at 205-620-6426 for more information.
