ALABASTER – Mayor Scott Brakefield and the Alabaster City Council took time to recognize the accomplishments of Eagle Scout Max Woodall during a regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 12.

During the recognition, Brakefield presented a proclamation to Woodall acknowledging his work ethic, deeds and accomplishments.

“Max Woodall is a member of Troop 548 and has not only proven himself to be an outstanding member of the Boy Scouts of America but also has attained the highest honor bestowed on a scout—the Eagle Scout award,” Brakefield said in reading the proclamation.

For his Eagle Scout project, Max planned, organized and constructed freestanding shadow boxes. Entitled, “The thirteen folds of the American Flag,” the project explained the meaning behind each of the folds of the American flag. The boxes are now on display at the veterans memorial at the American Village in Montevallo.

“The Boy Scouts of America is a vital force in the development of our youth and its many programs encourage and promote members to do things for themselves and especially for others while exhibiting the qualities of honor, loyalty, courage, cheerfulness and dedication,” Brakefield said in reading the proclamation.

Woodall has distinguished himself by earning 26 merit badges and held the offices of troop guide, patrol leader, senior patrol leader and membership in the Order of the Arrow. Woodall also completed High Adventure Scout Camps at Philmont, Northern Tier and Sea Base. Woodall was also a member of the Thompson high School jazz ensemble.

“The Eagle Scout award distinction will follow Max throughout life and will be a beacon to others of his leadership quality and the commitment this young man has shown,” Brakefield said in reading the proclamation.

After the mayor personally presented the proclamation to Woodall, members of the audience and the entire City Council stood and clapped enthusiastically in recognition of the scout’s hard work.
