PELHAM – Pelham residents will have the opportunity to enjoy the beat and move their feet when Salsa in the Park returns for its second year this September.
Planned for Sunday, September 22, Pelham Parks and Recreation will return with a sequel to last year’s inaugural music and dancing event that proved to be a popular outing for Pelham families.
This year’s event will take place from 4-7 p.m. and will again bring crowds to the Pelham City Park, located at 2020 Pelham Park Boulevard, right off of Highway 31.
“Pelham Parks and Recreation strives to offer a variety of community events,” said Alicia Walters, assistant director of Pelham Parks and Recreation. “Pelham City Park is a great place to have families and communities come together. This event is open to everyone, whether you live in Pelham or not.”
As with last year, the event will feature free salsa lessons for event attendees in addition to the large scale outdoor social dancing event.
Playing on the name of the event, this year’s outing will also include the new addition of a salsa and dip competition that will see members of the community go head-to-head on who can produce the best pairing for chips.
“Whether you dance or not, we encourage you to come out and enjoy being outdoors with great music and lots of fun,” Walters said.
In addition to the bounce houses, face painting station and balloon artist that have already been scheduled for the day of fun, children will also be able to enjoy the park’s recently completed playground facility—which first opened to the public at the beginning of the summer in May.
While the mood of the event will be one that encourages movement and social dancing, families are also encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to lay out in the park in order to enjoy the space while they are not actively dancing.
The event will be presented to all in the community free of charge and registration will not be required.
