PELHAM – Administrators and educators took a moment to celebrate on Tuesday, July 9, when it was announced that students at Pelham High School set new records during the 2023-2024 school year.
This past Spring, Pelham students collectively took over 600 AP exams as part of their attendance in advanced placement programs offered by the high school. Upon the receipt of returned test scores, it has now been determined that 68 percent of finished exams received a passing score—a new record for the school that exceeds averages.
“We are extremely proud of the dedication and effort shown by both our teachers and students in the Advanced Placement program at Pelham High School,” said PHS Principal Kim Kiel.
According to Kiel, the results from this past school year spell out a pass rate increase of 21 percent from last year’s results and is a success coupled with the fact that the student body also increased the total number of AP exams taken by nearly 100.
“As a principal, I am particularly proud of the growing number of students willing to take on the rigorous curriculum of the Advanced Placement program,” Kiel said. “This increase is a testament to the unwavering support of our community, parents, students and teachers, and (marks) their collective determination to pursue excellence through hard work.”
In addition to the measured rise in student performance, PHS also highlighted the fact that seven AP class instructors accomplished a passing rate on exams that either matched or exceeded state and global averages for those same exams.
In a public announcement of the scores, Kiel thanked all educators and staff at PHS for their continued work and dedication to inspiring the next generation.
“As educators, it is our duty to not only expect but to demand such commitment and perseverance,” Kiel said. “We hope to see this upward trend continue, and I am immensely grateful to work alongside teachers who are dedicated to making Pelham High School the best it can be. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this remarkable achievement.”
