ALABASTER – State Sen. April Weaver has shared an update on her recovery after being hit by a vehicle while in a pedestrian crosswalk in front of a grocery store in Alabaster on July 12.

“Darrel and I sincerely appreciate the outpouring of kindness and concern we’ve received since my accident on Friday night,” Weaver said. “Following my emergency room visit, I was referred to an orthopedic specialist, where I received an evaluation and treatment this morning (July 15).”

Due to the incident, Weaver was hindered from attending the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee which began on Monday, July 15.

“As a delegate pledged to my former boss, President Donald Trump, I will be unable to attend the entire RNC but have been cleared to make a quick trip to Milwaukee later this week,” Weaver said. “After pledging my support for President Trump, I will return to Birmingham, where I will continue treatment in an outpatient setting.”

On the night of Friday, July 12, Weaver was struck by a vehicle while proceeding through a crosswalk in front of the Publix on Highway 119 in Alabaster. The Alabaster Fire Department received a call and were dispatched at approximately 5:40 p.m.

The Alabaster Police Department responded to the scene and Weaver received aid from Alabaster Fire and Rescue as well as RPS Ambulance service and Shelby ER. Weaver sustained minor injuries from the incident and was transported to Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

“Rest assured, I remain dedicated to addressing the needs of the people of Senate District 14 during my recovery,” Weaver said. “As always, the staff in both my Pelham and Montgomery offices are readily available to assist with any needs you may have,” Weaver said.

Weaver was elected to serve Alabama’s 14th district in 2021. She previously served in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2020—representing the state’s 49th District. Additionally, Weaver was appointed by former President Donald Trump as regional director of the United States Department of Health and Human Services for Region IV where she served from May 2020 to December 2020.

Weaver has 25 years of experience in healthcare administration and previously served as director of operations at Shelby Baptist Medical Center from December 2002 to February 2017.
