ALABASTER – Shelby Baptist Medical Center has cut the ribbon on its new Nursing Education Hall, a project funded by the Baptist Health Foundation, the charitable arm of Brookwood Baptist Health.

An approximately $20,000 project, the renovated hallway features several hospital rooms and simulation labs where nursing students and other staff can continue to advance their healthcare education and training.

“This space is going to offer that immersive, hands-on experience that nursing students look for,” Shelby Baptist Medical Center CEO Holly Dean said. “This is a fantastic achievement for Shelby. We are incredibly grateful to the Baptist Health Foundation for funding this project, and I can’t wait to see all the learning in action.”

The project was spearheaded at Shelby by Brookwood Baptist Health Market Nurse Educator Charman Harper, the Shelby County Chamber’s 2024 ‘Committed to Community’ award winner.

Dean said Harper came to her with the idea and led the way through the original conception all the way to the ribbon cutting.

“I am unbelievably grateful for Charman’s passion and investment in educating our students and our staff and making us better at what we do,” Dean said. “This space is her vision, and now it’s here in reality. Her love for healthcare education will be on full display here.”

The Nursing Education Hall is located on the second floor of the main hospital to the left of the Cardiovascular Unit that opened in August of 2022 and will be open to all Shelby employees and student nurses.
