ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council approved a bid for firefighting equipment and set a public hearing to revoke the business license of Nick’s Auto Repair, LLC during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 8.

During the meeting, the Council approved a resolution to award a bid in the amount of $58,753.60 to Sunbelt Fire, Inc for firefighting equipment. The equipment is for a fire truck that is currently being built with tentative plans for it to be delivered in April 2025.The Alabaster Fire Department had already budgeted for the equipment purchase in preparation for the bid.

The Alabaster City Council approved the setting of a public hearing for Monday July 22 at 6:30 p.m. to consider the revocation of the business license for Nick’s Auto Repair, LLC at 8601 Highway 119.

The consideration to revoke the business license comes at the request of the Alabaster Police Department after Nicholas Whitfield was arrested on four counts of theft in the first degree and after the department received multiple accusations of questionable business practices.

During the meeting, the Council postponed the awarding of a bid for landscaping for Peanut Davenport Field and Larry Simmons Stadium. After receiving the lowest bid in the amount of $229,303.75, the Council wanted to discuss the item further.

The Council approved a resolution authorizing the amendment of sewer charges for Wellington Manor due to the filling of two 30,000 gallon pools. The resolution allows the city to credit back sewer fees after the manor drained the pools without the water going back to the sewer.

During the meeting, the Council approved the setting of multiple public hearings for property abatements for Monday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The following properties will be considered for abatement at the meeting:

  • Structure at 1305 Navajo Trail
  • Structure at 1557 Napoleon Drive
  • Structure at 70 Maylene Lane
  • Structure at 612 ninth Ave. SW.

“All of these public hearings are obviously for the public to come and either speak for or against and we really encourage you if you are interested in one of these public hearings to please come and speak,” Councilmember Rick Ellis said.

The next work session will take place on Thursday, July 18 at 6 p.m. and the next regularly scheduled city council meeting will be on Monday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m.
