Thompson’s John Alan McGuire selected for All-American Bowl

NAPLES, Fla. – The Thompson Warriors will once again be represented in one of the biggest showcases of the year after veteran kicker and punter John Alan McGuire punched his All-American Bowl ticket.

McGuire earned a selection to the 2025 All-American Bowl after his success at Football University’s Top Gun camp.

Football University announced McGuire’s invitation on social media on Friday, June 28.

The All-American Bowl has been held since 2000 and collects the 100 best high school players in the country for a game between the top players from the eastern and western United States.

According to the game’s website, 594 All-American Bowl alumni have gone on to be selected in the NFL Draft, with 138 selected in the first round.

The five-star uncommitted kicker and punter is coming off a successful junior season with the Warriors where he helped them reach the Class 7A state championship game.

McGuire earned Junior All-American Second Team honors as a punter by national high school sports media outlet MaxPreps in 2023 for his average of 42.4 yards per punt, which came off 28 punts for 848 total yards.

As the Warriors kicker, and he went 51-55 on extra points, 6-10 on field goals with a long of 49 yards and earned touchbacks on 46 of his 56 kickoffs to earn an All-County First Team selection.

McGuire will return to Thompson for his senior year as he seeks to help his team return to the mountaintop of Class 7A ahead of his likely future as a college football player.

The 2025 All-American Bowl will take place on Jan. 11, 2025 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and will air live on NBC and Peacock.
