MONTEVALLO – The American Village in Montevallo is currently bustling with the final preparations for its grandest event of the year—the eagerly awaited Independence Day celebration—which will mark the organization’s 25th celebration of America’s birthday.

From 11:15 a.m. until twilight’s last gleaming at 9 p.m., this year’s event will feature more than 50 patriotic activities that promise to provide all in attendance with a day filled with patriotic fervor, family-friendly activities, delicious food and a stunningly triumphant fireworks display.

“Planning for the big day begins months in advance,” American Village Communications Officer Melanie Poole said. “We take July 5 off, (and then we) begin working toward the next Independence Day. In just two years, our nation will celebrate its’ 250th birthday. This event on July 4, 2026 will be a unique opportunity for all of us to rededicate ourselves and our families’ efforts towards learning more about our country and fostering a renewed sense of patriotism and pride. And what better place to get a jump start on that than the American Village.”

Located at 3727 Highway 119 in Montevallo, The American Village will open its gates for the day at 11 a.m. and allow entry to the grounds until all gates close at 8 p.m., prior to the fireworks display. Entry costs are set at $5 per person, but active military and children under the age of 4 will be granted free entry.

Among the many activities offered throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to see a number of live demonstrations showcasing colonial era medicine, fashion, espionage and crime and punishment. Visitors will also be welcome to tour the site’s Continental Army Encampment and attend a reenactment of the 1775 Battle at Concord Bridge as well as an Independence Day Ball

Patriots of the past are also expected on the grounds to celebrate the occasion, with the likes of Alexander Hamilton, Samuel Adams, Dolley Madison, John Adams and George and Martha Washington all making appearances alongside a trail of historical figures.

Additionally, Children will have the opportunity to enjoy hands-on activities that include cornhole, hula hoops, Jenga, sidewalk chalk art and the Tickled Pink Petting Zoo. They are also invited to attend the demonstration of a puppet show that will demonstrate historical stories.

While on the grounds, visitors will have the ability to attend all of American Village’s static locations as well, which include the Randall Museum, The National Veterans Shrine, The Freedom Trail and a recreation of the White House Oval Office.

An area featuring metal workers, soap makers, jewelry artists, glass artists and wood workers will also be on the grounds that will allow guests to witness the creation of materials and purchase work from the artisans.

A series of live musical performances will further accompany the day’s events as well, with JQ’s One Man Band, Ain’t Misbehavin’ Swing Band, The Colonial Consort, Voices of the South Barbershop Quarter and USO singer Rita Allen and pianist Robby Draper all making appearances and entertaining guests over the course of the celebration.

In terms of food and refreshments, a total of 15 food trucks are scheduled to provide food items ranging from hot dogs, burgers, po’boys and barbeque and other treats like shaved ice, ice cream, lemonade and root beers.

Several local Montevallo and Shelby County groups are expected to assist The American Village in the presentation of the big event, including the Montevallo Community Band, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Montevallo Police Department and Fire & Rescue Squad and Police Explorers Post 2450. Participants in the American Village Junior Interpreters program will also aid in the event and partake in many of the day’s demonstrations.

“Dozens of volunteers (also) drive shuttles, hand out programs, give directions, help in the gift shop and man each building,” Poole said.

Members of the local branch of the Sons of the American Revolution’s will also participate in the evening program, which will be emceed by ABC 33/40 sports anchor Jeff Speegle.
