ALABASTER – Staff of the Shelby Baptist Medical Center gathered together on Monday, June 3 to cut a ribbon in recognition of the hospital’s newly renovated Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

“This will be extremely beneficial to our facility and community,” Shelby Baptist Medical Center CEO Holly Dean said. “This is part of our continued pursuit to bring new, advanced technology locally and prevent our community from driving to other facilities for the latest in healthcare technology. They can get it right here at home.”

Cath labs are a specialized area in the hospital where doctors can perform minimally invasive tests and cardiac procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease.

Shelby Baptist Medical Center’s renovated cath lab was $2.2 million project spanning more than 1,000 square feet. Construction was handled by Robins and Morton who have worked with Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Brookwood Baptist Health for more than 20 years and Poole and Company Architects served as the architect for the project.

Renovations to the lab included updated electrical infrastructure, wiring, plumbing and architectural finishes. Work on the cath lab took approximately ninth months to complete with six months of planning and three months of construction.

The newly renovated cath lab served its first set of cases on Tuesday, June 4.
