MONTGOMERY – After another strong season on the diamond, some of the area’s best rising seniors will have the chance to showcase their skills alongside the top players in the state.
The North-South All-Star Showcase rosters were announced by the state on Monday, May 21, and four area softball players, including Thompson’s Aubree Hooks and Olivia Tindell, Chelsea’s Sydney Carroll and Spain Park’s Charlee Bennett, and Briarwood baseball’s Will Clark will represent their schools at the event.
Bennett had a big junior year for the Jags at shortstop, third base and second base as she batted .354 with seven home runs, 41 runs and 29 RBI. A UAB commit, she earned a .583 on-base percentage, a .717 slugging percentage and a 1.301 OPS and helped Spain Park make the state tournament.
Carroll was a big power hitter for the Hornets this year with 11 home runs in 89 at-bats. The Mississippi State commit finished the year batting .281 with 25 runs, 29 RBI, a .674 slugging percentage and a 1.154 OPS while playing at first base and pitcher in Class 7A.
Thompson will have two representatives on the North All-Star team in Hooks and Tindell.
Hooks, an Indiana commit, came up big in the circle throughout the season. She went 22-4 as a pitcher, including three no-hitters, with a 1.28 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. She allowed just 24 earned runs all season while striking out 145 batters.
Tindell excelled at the plate and in the outfield for the Warriors with a .385 batting average, .494 on-base percentage, .508 slugging percentage and 1.002 OPS. The future UAB Blazer had 45 runs off 47 hits and secured 35 RBI.
Clark has the honor of being the only county baseball player selected to the North All-Star team. The 6-foot-2 outfielder and pitcher for Briarwood batted .322 with 22 runs and 23 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .477, slugging percentage of .471 and OPS of .948.
The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association will hold the baseball and softball games during its annual North-South All-Star Week from July 15-19 in Montgomery.
