ALABASTER – Saturday, May 18 the David Lindsay chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a grave marking ceremony in honor of their namesake’s daughter, Rebecca Lindsay Fulton.

While the chapter is made up of descendants of those that fought in the American Revolution, Fulton is what  calls, “a true daughter.”

“She is the daughter of a revolutionary soldier,” Averette said. “It’s been a project of ours to mark her grave with a plaque to recognize that.”

Fulton’s existing grave lies in the Elliottsville Cemetery. Averette noted that her current marker has become worn down through the years, which is one reason for the upcoming grave marking.

Along with the grave marking ceremony, the chapter plans to go over the history of both David Lindsay and his daughter. While they will be speaking about the family of their namesake, Averette wishes to have other descendants in attendance on Saturday.

“We would love to have descendants of David and Rebecca there to participate in this honoring and celebration of life,” Averette said.

Along with reviewing the history, the ceremony will include a wreath laying, a musket volley and paying respect to American history. The Sons of American History will also be in attendance and will be posting the colors.

“It will be a very simple ceremony, yet contain important aspects of our chapter’s history,” Averette said. “SAR being there is also very important to us, as they will be honoring our flag.”

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster.
