ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved the reappointment of Adam Moseley as president and Derek Henderson as vice president during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 13.

As the board watches yet another school year reach its close, it continues to prepare for the next one by selecting its leaders for the next year which will continue to be Moseley and Henderson after their reappointments.

Moseley was first appointed to the ACS Board of Education at its creation and has since been reappointed to successive terms including serving as its president. Moseley also serves on numerous local boards including as president of the Alabaster Arts Council.

“Let me thank you for trusting me (with) one more year,” Moseley said. “I do appreciate it and I appreciate this board. This is a fantastic board to work with.”

Henderson was first appointed to the ACS Board of Education in May 2013 and has served successive terms since, including reappointment as the board’s vice president. Henderson is a 27 year resident of Alabaster and is a member with the Alabama Trust for Boards of Education.

“I would like to thank this board for allowing me to serve as vice president for one more term,” Henderson said. “I am humble and proud to represent Alabaster City Schools throughout the state and that is something that I do not take lightly.”

In addition, BOE member John Myrick was recently reappointed to his fourth consecutive term on the board by the Alabaster City Council. Myrick expressed his gratitude for yet another opportunity to continue serving.

“I do appreciate the council for letting me serve another term,” he said. “I’m grateful for that. I appreciate (it).”

Board member Kristalyn Lee spoke during the meeting and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve and recognized the completion of the school year as her first year on the BOE.

“I’m about to complete my first year on the board, thank you,” she said. “I’m just grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of the process that educates our students that supports them from a holistic standpoint, academically (and) emotionally. So, thank you all for allowing me this opportunity.”

During the meeting, the board approved multiple items on the agenda including the purchase of furniture for Creek View Elementary School and the ACES/Alternative School program.

The bid for furniture at the ACES/Alternative School building came in at $80,000 to Modular Interior Elements and the bid for furniture at CVES came in at $126,000 to Modular Concepts.

The ACES/Alternative School will be located in the same facility as the upcoming ACS Champions Craft Academy in the former Restore building in Alabaster and will feature a large modular meeting space, training classrooms, office space and more.

“I want to thank the board or allowing me to go ahead and purchase the furniture for both the ACES/Alternative School and Creek View in order for us to ensure that it will be ready on time,” Superintendent Wayne Vickers said.

The school system tentatively plans for the ACES/Alternative School program to be open this fall with the Champions Craft Academy set to open in fall 2025.
