Pelham, Helena, Briarwood, Calera track and field athletes shine at 6A state championship

GULF SHORES – It was a big weekend for area athletes at the Class 6A outdoor track and field championships in Gulf Shores from May 2-4 as the Briarwood Christian Lions, Calera Eagles, Helena Huskies and Pelham Panthers prevailed over the state’s best talent.
Briarwood’s girls track and field team earned top 10 honors in the team standings as it came in sixth place with 42 points.
Calera’s Jordon Bray won the girls 400-meter dash with a new season record of 56.82 seconds.
Pelham’s Will McGough had a school record for the Panthers as he finished second in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 10.68 seconds, which was a new personal record and the 14th-best time in the state this season.
Pelham’s Tyler Mason also broke his own Pelham school record for third place in the boys shot put with a throw of 55-01.50. It was the fourth-best throw in the state this season.
Mason also came in second place in the boys discus with a throw of 159-03.
Briarwood’s Charlie Thompson came in tenth in the same event with a throw of 46-01.00.
Briarwood’s Bela Doss came in second in the girls 800-meters with a time of 2:17.03. Pelham had two top 10 finishers in Emily Wester, who came in sixth with a personal record of 2:22.87, and Janelle Ramos, who finished tenth with a personal record of her own of 2:26.28.
Briarwood’s girls 4×800-meter relay team came in second place with a time of 9:32.86, which was the third-best time in the state this season. Pelham finished ninth with a time of 10:17.69, which was a personal record.
Jaden King of Calera came in third in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 49.00 seconds.
Briarwood’s Mary Grace Parker set a new personal record in the girls 3200-meter run as she came in third place with a time of 11:04.29.
Helena’s Michael Sesteli came in third place in the boys pole vault with a mark of 13-06.00.
Helena’s Brooklyn Kelley earned third place in the girls shot put with a personal-record mark of 37.11.25.
Briarwood’s Ansley Murphy finished in third in the girls pole vault with a mark of 11-00.00. Helena’s Abigail Parsons came in sixth after clearing a mark of 10-00.00.
Briarwood’s Livi Reebals finished fifth in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 15.75 seconds. Pelham’s Emma Grace Howard came in seventh with a new personal record of 15.92 seconds.
Mary Grace Parker took fifth place in the girls 1600-meter run for the Lions with a personal record of 5:03.18. Her teammate Bela Doss came in sixth place with a time of 5:07.59.
Pelham’s Howard came in sixth in the girls high jump with a mark of 5-02.00. Briarwood’s Emma Kerley finished in ninth at 5-00.00.
Kerley finished sixth in the girls triple jump with a mark of 35-09.50. Pelham’s Howard came in eighth with a new personal record of 35-06.00.
Helena’s Aspen Warren finished the boys 1600-meter run in sixth place with a new personal record of 4:23.37.
Pelham’s Tyler Tucker came in sixth in the boys javelin with a personal-record mark of 159-00.
Pelham’s Claire Robinson earned a personal record in the girls javelin with a seventh-place mark of 107-08.
Pelham’s Anthony Sanders came in eighth in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 15.22 seconds.
Helena finished in eighth in the boys 4×800-meter relay with a time of 8:25.98, and Pelham came in tenth with a time of 8.31.38.
