DECATUR – Stillman College lead-off hitter and left fielder Lauren Haskins was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year on May 1, highlighting a group of five All-Conference selections.

Haskins, a senior from Alabaster, Alabama, led the SSAC with a .438 batting average, .481 on base percentage and .667 slugging percentage through the season. She also led Stillman with 47 runs scored, 18 extra base hits, six home runs and 39 stolen bases. Haskins’ 26 RBI and 10 doubles are third among Tiger hitters. She was one of five players to receive All-SSAC honors.

Joining Haskins on the All-SSAC First Team were fellow Alabaster native Madison Bubel at third base and pitcher Lexi McCray from Brookwood, Alabama. Bubel hit .371 with 29 RBI, 34 runs scored, 14 doubles and two home runs. McCray was Stillman’s ace in the circle, posting a 14-3 and 1.33 earned run average. She pitched 116 innings, holding opponents to a .238 batting average. McCray started the season on a 13-game win streak, and has 11 complete games, three shutouts and two saves.

Second Team All-SSAC honors went to Bailie Seales of Centerville, Alabama, and Taylor Roland of Milbrook, Alabama. Seales and Roland followed Haskins and Bubel in hitting, with Seales hitting .339 and Roland .333. Seales had 22 RBI, 25 runs scored, 16 walks and six hit by pitch for a .433 on base percentage. Roland collected 22 runs, 12 RBI, three doubles and a team-leading three triples.

Other awards included in the evening was the SSAC Champion of Character award, presented to Sara Kate Nichols of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and 15 SSAC All-Academic honorees: Elisabeth Boso, Madsison Bubel, Faith Byram, Carolyn Carter, Gracie Fjeldstad, Lauren Haskins, Anniston Jones, Katelyn Lankford, Katelynn Madison, Lexi McCray, Ivey Moreland, Taylor Roland, Bailie Seales, Jasmine Wade and Paisley Wilson.

All-Academic honorees must be someone in their third term at the institution or later, and have a 3.25. Stillman had 88.2% of players eligible by term of attendance receive the honor.
