ALABASTER – School Resource Officer Isaac Bivens and Cpl. John St. Pierre recently enjoyed an encouraging day of fun as they hosted an exclusive tour of the Alabaster Police Department to a group of students from Alabaster City Schools.
“The tour went wonderfully,” St. Pierre said. “The students seemed to genuinely enjoy every moment of it. They were curious, engaged and enthusiastic throughout the entire experience, which made it extremely rewarding for me and the team.”
During the tour on April 12, students learned about different aspects of police work, from daily operations to the importance of community policing and safety protocols.
“Seeing their faces light up as they interacted with officers and learned about our equipment and vehicles was inspiring,” St. Pierre said.
The tour came about after the Alabaster Police Department worked together with Bivens and ACS teachers Amy Hendrix and Katie May for ways to bring the multiple abilities class to the department.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity for these teens to see behind the scenes, learn about our work and feel more connected to law enforcement,” St. Pierre said.
St. Pierre shared that one highlight of the experience was the opportunity to see the teens’ confidence grow as they asked questions and participated in activities.
“What I am most proud of about APD is that we open our doors and hearts to everyone in our community,” he said. “Overall, it was a truly uplifting and educational experience for everyone involved.”
The new Alabaster Police Department opened in October of 2023—marking a significant upgrade for the officers making the transfer from the previous 70-year-old station.
The Alabaster Police Department is located on the corner of Alabama 119 and 11th Street Southwest and joins the whole department together in one location. The new facility can host a variety of agencies as well as training classes and features temporary housing facilities for inmates. There are also interviews rooms, areas for communications and storage for evidence.
