PELHAM – The city of Pelham will once again transform the area around the Pelham Recreation Center into a hub for exciting family-friendly entertainment when Palooza in the Park makes its annual return next month.

With the event set for Saturday, May 18, the ninth annual Palooza in the Park will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offer a day filled with fun, great tastes and the chance to find something unique from one of the many vendors that will be in attendance.

“The city of Pelham and the Pelham Parks and Recreation Department are so excited to present this year’s Pelham Palooza in the Park,” said Paula Holly, Pelham’s recruiting coordinator. “Our fun family event features something for everyone in the community.”

In addition to the large variety of local vendors offering crafts and creations and the many food trucks that will line the area, guests will have the ability to take part in a long list of games, attractions and family activities.

The city’s trails, splash pad and new playground will all be on full display and readily available for use. Nearby, those facilities will be accompanied and supported by face-painting stations, inflatables and a dunking booth that will aim to attract attention and create laughter and excitement.

“Our event promises to be a celebration like no other, filled to the brim with fun activities for all ages,” City Council President Maurice Mercer said. “Whether you’re a long-time resident or a newcomer to our wonderful community, this is an opportunity for us to come together, connect and create lasting memories.”

The popular rock climbing-wall attraction from past events will also make its return as well as crafts offered by Party Art and the new introduction of Birmingham Knockerball’s participation in the festivities.

Palooza in the Park’s live entertainment will be supplied by two acts which will share the main stage over the course of the event. From 10 a.m. to noon, The Divines will kick off the event and will then turn over the crowd to the M80’s who will carry the event after a short break and play from 1-3 p.m.

During the day, young athletes from across the city’s sports programs will also take part in a youth sports parade that will display their team’s sportsmanship, community spirit and local pride.

“The whole day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends,” Holly said. “We can’t wait to share the day with (everyone).”
