NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain Eagles kept their undefeated season alive as they capped off a perfect 6-0 run through area play.
Oak Mountain took a 4-0 win over the Spain Park Jaguars on Tuesday, April 9 at Heardmont Park to sweep the season series and improve to 20-0-1 on the season.
The Eagles pressed the attack right out of the gate as they had multiple chances within the first 15 minutes by Aidan Riley, Gerardo Rodriguez and the rest of the front line.
While many of the chances to start the match either missed the goal or were saved, Oak Mountain got a golden opportunity to score the opener after an inadvertent handball by Spain Park off a corner in the 15th minute led to a penalty kick.
Nate Joiner lined up to take the spot kick and fired a ball into the middle of the goal that curled left into the back of the net. That put the Eagles up 1-0 and gave them the lead for good.
10 minutes later, an Oak Mountain cross deflected off Joiner into the goal to give him a brace on the evening and increase the lead to 2-0.
After the Jags made another key save in the 32nd minute, Sam Collins missed a shot later in the sequence.
However, a minute later, Collins fired another shot from deep that went into the net for the third goal of the night.
Julian Harrison had one more chance for the Eagles with a low shot that was saved before half in the 39th minute, and Oak Mountain went into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead.
Spain Park came out in the second half strong by controlling the first two minutes after halftime, but shortly after, Om Shrestha and Riley had a pair of shots in a three-minute span.
Then, in the 49th minute, the Eagles got another run on goal, and Collins converted his shot for his second goal of the night.
That proved to be the final goal of the night as both teams let their benches take over the remainder of the match, sealing the 4-0 win for Oak Mountain.
Riley was the only player to record an assist in the game after he got a pair of assists in the win.
Collins led the way with six shots, including four on goal, and Joiner had four shots on the night and three on target.
Alexander Chaide-Cruz earned the clean sheet without having to make a save in his 80 minutes in goal.
The Eagles will honor their seniors in their next match against Montgomery Academy on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Heardmont Park.
Spain Park will also hold its senior night on April 11 as it hosts Huntsville at 6 p.m.
