MONTEVALLO – Residents and visitors will soon be able to join the crowds near Orr Park for the third annual Spring Fling Family Food Truck Fest in Montevallo later this month.

On Saturday, April 27, event participants will be able to partake in a six-hour-long food truck festival that will line Island Street near the Orr Park Pecan Grove at 940 Island Street.

Set to begin at noon, guests will be able to descend on the area to grab lunch or an early dinner and experience some of the local tastes and flavors that can be found in and around the local community.

“We are so excited to bring Montevallo residents and visitors downtown for our third annual Spring Fling,” said Courtney Bennett, executive director of Montevallo Main Street. “Celebrating arts and culture and bringing people together to enjoy food and fellowship with this event is something we look forward to every year.”

The event will be free to enter and is designed to provide a family friendly day of entertainment that will also feature a full lineup of activities and events that plan to bring in a large number of area businesses and services.

The list of activities will include:

• Inflatable bounce houses
• An obstacle course
• An interactive art mural
• Face painting stations
• Music
• coloring sheets
• A Tai Chi class led by Brandon Anderson

Organized in cooperation between Montevallo Main Street, Impact Montevallo and DRUM the Program, the festival will also allow visitors to take part in organization specific classes and demonstrations.

DRUM the Program, a cultural arts platform, will present classes led by instructor Abou Sylla that will take place in two independent sections. The first class is scheduled for 1-1:30 p.m. and the second will start later in the day and run from 3-3:30 p.m.

Impact Montevallo, a volunteer group focused on the prevention of youth substance abuse through education, awareness and action, will also supply a chance to explore their S.P.O.T., Substance Prevention Observation Training, trailer at the event.

The trailer presents a mock-up of the average teenager’s bedroom and serves as a resource to educate communities, parents and educators on spotting the risk items and signs of substance use that are hidden in plain sight. The trailer was organized and obtained through Impact Montevallo’s partnership with the Montevallo Police Department.

This food truck festival is being billed as a “rain or shine” event, but if the event must be cancelled due to severe inclement weather, it will be announced via social media on the festival’s Facebook page.

“You’ll enjoy the beautiful setting of the park, the sound of music and children’s laughter, and the smell of delicious food all while spending time with your family and friends,” Bennett said. “Events like this foster a sense of community pride and help us remain a tight-knit community.”
