AUBURN – The Oak Mountain Eagles had a successful trip to the Plains on Tuesday, April 2 as they walked away with a 4-1 win over the Auburn High Tigers.

The win over the No. 5 Tigers on the road at Auburn High School kept the No. 1 Eagles’ perfect season alive as they improved to 18-0-1 on the year.

Oak Mountain started the first half strong with two goals in the first 40 minutes to establish an early advantage.

However, it didn’t make it to halftime unscathed as Auburn scored a goal in the first half, making the halftime score 2-1 in favor of the visiting Eagles.

That goal was all the Tigers could get past the Oak Mountain backline as the Eagles prevented Auburn from scoring in the entire second half.

While its defensive effort alone was good enough to take the win back to Birmingham, Oak Mountain wasn’t satisfied with just two goals on the night.

The Eagles fired two more goals past the Tigers to replicate their offensive output from the first half.

In the end, Oak Mountain took the 4-1 win to keep its perfect season alive.

Four different goal scorers found the back of the net for the Eagles as Aidan Riley, Gerardo Rodriguez, Sam Collins and Luke Jovanovich each scored a goal.

Three of those goals were assisted, and Gabe Capocci, Harrison Kilgore and Luke Jovanovich ended the night with an assist each.

Collins led the team in shots with three and Riley had two shots, and their only shots on goal resulted in scores. As a whole, the Eagles were efficient with their opportunities as all four of their shots on target ended in a goal and four of their eight overall shots were goals.

Owen Wells had three saves across a full 80 minutes of action and allowed just one goal to earn the win. One of those three saves was on an Auburn penalty kick attempt.

Oak Mountain will return to area play on Friday, April 5 with a road trip to Hewitt-Trussville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. after the girls game at 5 p.m.
