COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Arts Council is currently in the midst of finalizing preparations for their upcoming musical production that hopes to have children from around the area excitedly asking their parents to let them go.

The Shelby County Arts Council will debut their production of “Frozen Jr.” with two premier performances at the facility’s Song Theater set for Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The musical, which has a runtime of roughly one hour, is based on the 2013 Disney film and the 2018 Broadway adaption of the same name. The musical will also feature talent from a cast made up entirely of school-aged performers that includes a total of 24 student performers led by Director Leslie Belk, Ruth Turner and Sarah Elizabeth Shelton.

“You don’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind performance with a cast ranging in ages from six to eighteen,” Belk said. “The talent in this group of students is unbelievable. Don’t miss this show.”

The show’s two main leads have been announced as Sarah Elizabeth Shelton playing the role of Elsa and Leah Slaughter as Anna.

The show promises to include the fan favorite music from the famous film, such as, “Let it Go,” “Love Is an Open Door” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” The production will also incorporate musical numbers designed and introduced as part of the 2018 Broadway show, contributions that may offer something new to audience members that are familiar with the film.

Tickets for the show will cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids and students. Both opening shows will be followed with another showing of the production the next day on Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m.

Tickets for all three shows can be purchased at Shelbycountyartscouncil.com/frozen-jr-performance.
