MONTEVALLO – Tuition rates will once again be maintained at their current amounts following a vote by the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees on Friday, Feb. 16.

For what will now be the seventh straight year, the tuition freeze acts as a continued measure that serves to ensure that the university maintains its cited status as one of the best quality-for-cost institutions in higher education.

“The university family is proud to keep access to a four-year degree as affordable as we possibly can,” said Dr. John W. Stewart, UM president. “We continue to prioritize reducing costs for high school graduates, community college transfers, adult learners and their families. In addition to freezing tuition, we’ve continued to increase funding for institutional scholarships each year to help our students continue to pursue meaningful lives and careers.”

The tuition freeze, which was first put in place for the 2018-2019 school year, has kept rates at the University unchanged during a tumultuous stretch of time in the world of education, which has included the full duration of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The university also announced its intention to continue waiving its ACT/SAT test score requirements for admission and again offered scholarships to students based on their high school GPA through fall 2024.

This continued waver ensures that students who do not submit ACT or SAT test scores when applying for any term in 2024-2025 will not be disadvantaged in the application or scholarship review process. Furthermore, UM will award scholarships to students without test scores who have a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA or higher.

In efforts to further drive applications, UM also participated in Free College Application Week during the week of Feb. 19-23. Throughout that period, the institution allowed high school seniors, transfer students and graduate students to apply to the college without paying any application fees whatsoever. UM also held Transfer Day on Friday, March 8 and Preview Day on March 16 to drive attendance, application numbers and increase awareness of its many offered programs.
