HOOVER – The Thompson Warriors kept rolling with a trio of wins at the Jag Classic in Hoover on Saturday, March 9, defeating the Brooks Lions, Southside-Gadsden Panthers and Pell City Panthers to improve to 19-1 on the season.

After a scoreless first inning against Brooks, Laney Williams reached base off a single on the first pitch of the second and ended up advancing to home on an error, putting Thompson up 1-0.

While the Lions secured two outs in the top of the third, Kadyn Bush hit an RBI single to make the lead 2-0.

The Warriors then finished off the win with five runs in the fourth inning. After an Olivia Tindell double and Alexandra Bauer fielder’s choice, Savanna Burnett scored both runners on an RBI single.

The next batter walked to put runners on the corners for Keara Hall, who hit an RBI single for the fifth run of the game. A sacrifice fly and a walk finished off the scoring in the 7-0 win in four innings.

Aubree Hooks earned the win in 3.1 innings, taking two strikeouts against two hits and a walk.

Thompson kept the runs coming in its second game of the tournament against Southside.

The Warriors capped off three straight singles with an RBI single by Dailynn Motes to take a 1-0 lead. She scored on the next at-bat thanks to an error.

After Williams reached on a single, Tindell scored two runs with an RBI single to make the score 4-0 after the first inning.

Kelsey Burden hit a leadoff single to start the second, which led to a Hall RBI triple and the fifth run of the game. Burden then came home off a Motes RBI double to make the lead six.

Three batters later with runners on first and second, Bauer hit an RBI double to kick off four straight scoring plays. A Tindell sacrifice fly, Burnett RBI double and Neely Davis RBI single made the score 10-0 after the second.

Thompson finished off the win with RBI singles by Bauer and Nora Ellis in the top of the fourth to make the final score 12-0.

Bush took the win with two scoreless innings against one hit and two walks, and Kayla Haney earned the save with two scoreless innings of her own against one hit while taking two strikeouts.

The Warriors then finished the day with another dominant win over Pell City.

Singles by Burden and Hall kicked off the game, and after slipping to two outs, Hooks hit an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. The next batter Williams then hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to four.

Pell City answered in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single, but the 4-1 score line was as close as the Panthers got.

Bush reached on a two-out error in the top of the third, and on the next pitch, Hooks hit a two-run home run to make the score 6-1.

In the bottom of the frame, Pell City capitalized on an error to score its second run of the night, but a run off a wild pitch in the top of the fourth reestablished Thompson’s five-run lead.

Motes made the lead 8-2 on the first pitch of the fifth with a solo home run. With one out and the bases loaded off a hit by pitch, walk and Tindell single, Hannah Hobbs hit an RBI single to bring Morgan Adolphus home for the ninth run of the game.

Ellis closed out the scoring with a groundout that brought Mallory Flournoy home and sealed the 10-2 win.

Hooks earned the victory with three innings without allowing an earned run. She took three strikeouts against three hits and two unearned runs. Bush took the save with two perfect innings and two strikeouts.

Thompson will hit the road for its next game on Tuesday, March 12 as the Warriors take on Helena at 4:30 p.m.
