Second annual Shamrock Family Fun Run to support Alabaster library

ALABASTER – Just before St. Patrick’s Day, community members will don green attire for another fun yet important event—the second annual Shamrock Family Fun Run on Saturday, March 16.

The Shamrock Family Fun Run is a fundraiser for the Albert L. Scott Library, and is part of a wider fundraising effort to support the construction of a new library. The event is presented by the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library and is sponsored by ABC Polymer Industries, FlexSack by ABC Polymer Industries and FullForce.

The run will take place at Patriots Park, located at 600 Industrial Road, beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the event at 9 a.m. Those who wish to register online may do so until Friday, March 15 and may pick up their goody bags early at the library on Friday, March 15 from 3-5 p.m.

“We have over 100 participants at this point, and we will have fun activities for them to do,” said Sybil Owens, member of the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library Board. “An aerobics instructor will help everyone to get warmed up. There will be a Jell-O shooter station and a hula hoop station. Everyone who participates will receive a goody bag.”

Participants are encouraged to dress up in their best Irish attire; however, they should be aware that the 1.5K run (or walk) will feature color blasts, as well as snacks and games. Those interested may sign up as individuals or as a team of six or more. Pets are also welcome but must be leashed and abide by park rules.

Proceeds from the Shamrock Family Fun Run will go toward the Library Building Fund. A new library facility will be part of a development planned for the intersection of Alabama Highway 119 and Thompson Road.

“We would like to be able to include some additional technology, an arts and culture center, and a space for kids and teens,” Owens said.

Those who wish to preregister may do so at CityOfAlabaster.libcal.com/event/11853198. Registration is $25 per person, $40 for a family up to six or $100 for a group. An invoice will be sent to the email participants provide within 48 hours of registration so that they may pay online or in person at the library. Please make all payments to Friends of the Albert L.
