Trent Seaborn has already amassed a large trophy case for his age, and he can add another award to his resume that may be his greatest honor yet.
The Thompson quarterback was named the 2023 National Freshman of the Year by major high school sports outlet MaxPreps on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
He joins a prestigious group of former winners including the San Francisco 49ers’ Nick Bosa, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence, the New England Patriots’ Jabrill Peppers, former Georgia quarterback JT Daniels and Texas’ Arch Manning.
In addition, Seaborn was named to the 2023 All-American First Team by MaxPreps.
Seaborn made history in 2023 as the first freshman to ever make the All-State team in Class 7A after he was named to the second team last month.
He made national headlines as an eighth grader when he took over as the Warriors’ starting quarterback for the 2022 Class 7A playoffs and made an undefeated run through the playoffs en route to winning the Most Outstanding Player in the Class 7A state championship game.
After being named the full-time starter as a freshman in 2023, Seaborn only improved from there and became one of the top quarterbacks not just in the county or state, but the nation.
He threw for a county-high 2,002 yards and 22 touchdowns in the regular season before adding another 588 yards and five touchdowns in the Class 7A playoffs.
His strong performances helped Thompson reach the Class 7A state championship game for the sixth straight season while beating some of the top teams in the state in Hewitt-Trussville and Vestavia Hills.
In addition, his 73 percent completion rate made him one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the state even while taking shots downfield to his talented receiver room of Kolby Hearn, Deuce Oliver, Colben Landrew and Angel Jones.
As a result, the 2023 First Team All-County selection is also one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the Class of 2027. He has already received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Maryland among his 13 FBS offers.
Seaborn is the second Alabama player to be named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year after Ronnie Royal, who then played for Alexandria but is now a state champion at Gulf Shores, won the award in 2020.
