PELHAM – The Pelham Police Department is set to take the plunge for an annual icy event on Saturday, Jan. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at Oak Mountain State Park.
“Dive into compassion and participate in the 2024 Pelham Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Alabama,” read a Pelham Police Department Facebook post. “For over 50 years, the Special Olympics has been building a movement to break down barriers – both on and off the field – through the power of sport.”
All money raised at the Polar Plunge will benefit the Special Olympics of Alabama, and will help provide year-round sports training, competition and leadership opportunities to more than 15,000 athletes within the state.
“As Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement around the world champions acceptance, inclusion, and equality for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” read a Pelham Police Department Facebook post.
2024 will mark the 13th annual Polar Plunge to take place in Pelham. Individuals can register to participate in the Polar Plunge at Pelhamalabama.gov/987/Pelham-Polar-Plunge.
Food will be available on site and will be provided by a variety of local food trucks.
“Each person who participates in the Pelham Polar Plunge demonstrates the most important part of the Special Olympics oath: ‘Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,’” the official release said.
