Churches across the Shelby County area are preparing to celebrate the reason for the season with a variety of contemporary, traditional and candlelight services that will be held on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

ALABASTER

• Cultivate Church will hold a special Christmas Eve service with a candle lighting on Sunday, Dec. 24 from 9-10 a.m.
• Double Oak Community Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24 followed by a candlelight service at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
• First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service with communion on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
• Westwood Baptist Church will hold Christmas Eve candlelight services on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. There will not be an evening service. 

BIRMINGHAM

• North Shelby Baptist Church will hold a Christmas worship celebration on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m.
• Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will host mass at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24 and at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 25.
• Asbury United Methodist Church will hold Christmas Eve services on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
• The Mt Laurel campus of Double Oak Community Church will hold a Christmas Eve service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m. with candlelight services in the evening at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
• Valleydale Church will hold candlelight Christmas Eve services on Saturday, Dec. 23 and Sunday, Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. The Christmas Eve morning worship service will take place at 10 a.m. 

CALERA

• Church on the Rock will hold a family service with communion and candlelight at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24.
• Hope Mountain Church will hold a celebration service on Sunday, Dec. 24 with breakfast at 9 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m.
• Collectivus Church will hold candlelight services on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. 

CHELSEA 

• Liberty Baptist Church will hold its Christmas at Liberty service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m.
• St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 4:30 p.m. The children’s choir will perform a selection of Christmas hymns.
• The Church at Chelsea/Westover will hold a live Christmas event on Sunday Dec 24 at 10 a.m. There will be worship, beverages and snacks. 

COLUMBIANA

• The First Baptist Church of Columbiana will hold a candlelight service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
• Cultivate Church will hold a Christmas Eve service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. with a special Christmas message, communion and a candle lighting. 

HELENA

• The Church at Cahaba Bend will hold Christmas Eve services at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Helena Methodist Church will hold carols and communion on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. as well as a laity led worship with carols at 10 p.m.
• Christ Community Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service on Sunday, Dec. 24 from 5-6 p.m.
• Union: The Church at Chelsea Park will hold a Christmas Eve Service on Sunday, Dec. 24 from 5-6 p.m. 

MONTEVALLO

• Montevallo First Baptist Church will hold an Old Fashioned Christmas event on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10:30 a.m.
• Montevallo Presbyterian Church will hold a special service that combines the Fourth Sunday of Advent with a Christmas Eve service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10:45 a.m.

PELHAM

• The Connection Church will hold a candlelight service on Sunday, Dec. 24 from 10-11:30 a.m. Children will treat attendees to Christmas songs afterward.
• Indian Springs First Baptist Church will hold a Christmas Eve service on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

VINCENT

• The Vincent Revival Center will hold its annual candlelight services on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. There will be fellowship, Christmas hymns and a reflection on Jesus’ birth.
