Pelham earns 7A road win over Prattville

PRATTVILLE – The Pelham Panthers went on the road and defeated a Class 7A opponent as they beat the Prattville Lions by a final score of 75-65 on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The Lions started the game out extremely well offensively, scoring 16 points in the opening period. However, the Panthers handled the quick start and responded with a run of their own and matched Prattville’s 16 points as the teams went into the second quarter tied.
In the second quarter, the Panthers came alive on both ends of the court. They dropped 27 points in the period to set the tone offensively and held Prattville to just 12 to establish a double-digit lead at halftime.
Pelham point guard Joe Wimberly spearheaded the offense as he scored 16 of his points in the first half. Egypt Daniel also got going from deep early and hit four three-pointers to add 12 points to the total. That gave the Panthers a 43-30 lead at the break.
However, Prattville was not out of the game yet and responded in a big way.
The Lions came out of the break with a massive run, scoring 24 points in the third quarter while holidng Pelham to 14 to nearly erase the Panthers’ halftime advantage.
Going into the final quarter, Pelham held a slim 57-54 lead with the outcome hanging in the balance.
The Panthers responded in the fourth quarter though as they got some critical stops, rebounds, and buckets in the final quarter to keep the Lions at bay.
Pelham outscored Prattville by seven in the fourth quarter, which let it pull away and secure the 10-point win away from home.
Wimberly led the way with 26 points in the game. Dynarian Long and Daniel each had 12 and Sam Tolbert pitched in eight points.
The Panthers are back in action on Monday, December 3 at home against Bessemer City with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
