PELHAM – Plenty of people from across Shelby County made their way out to help raise money in a unique way at Sav-A-Life Shelby’s annual Walk for Life event on Thursday, July 23 at First Baptist Church Pelham.

The event was called “Glow in the Dark Walk for Life” and was designed as a fundraiser for Sav-A-Life’s Pregnancy Resource Center, which provides different pregnancy related services to local women.

With a wide array for food vendors, music and glow in the dark themed activities, the night was a fun way for families to get together and raise money to help this cause.

“Pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, abortion information, parenting classes and material assistance are just some of the many services offered to empower women and men to make a life-affirming decision,” Event coordinator Kelley Frederick said. She said the money raised would go to providing those services.

Through sponsorships and donations collected prior to the event the organization has already raised nearly $20,000 to help support, according to Frederick, which is more than halfway to their goal of $33,000.

Participants in the walk wore their glow in the dark T-shirts as they walked along the track set up outside of FBC Pelham, and walked approximately 2 miles along the church’s smooth pavement.

Jon Walden, host of Revocation Radio, was present at the event to provide music and entertainment for the night.

“This is an absolutely amazing event,” Walden said. “You get to support saving lives through this event.”

Sav-A-Life is a non-profit pro-life organization that provides information about to help women and men make major, life-changing decisions according to their website.

The organization is still striving to raise money through different events to help provide these services through their Pregnancy Resource Center. More information about the organization can be found at Savalifeshelby.org
