Vincent church distributing healthy fruits, veggies

Coosa Valley Baptist Church located at 177 Church Street in Vincent will host its second “Farms to Families Drive-Thru” today, Thursday, July 9, starting at noon.

It is easy turn off Alabama 25 onto the church driveway, pull under a tent and volunteers will load a box of fresh fruits and vegetables right into the trunk of your car.  The way the program is set up is safe and healthy.

“We are grateful for the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama and the folks at Shelby Emergency Assistance for making this ‘Farms to Families Drive-Thru Project’ possible.  Our first event was very successful in getting healthy food in the hands of those in need,” said Bridgette Jordan-Smith, secretary for Coosa Valley Baptist Church and member of the Vincent City Council.

The project is being sponsored in cooperation with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama serves 12 counties including Shelby County, working side by side with the United Way of Central Alabama and the Greater Birmingham Foundation, focusing on feeding neighbors in need of emergency food.  One of the missions of the organization is to identify gaps of vulnerable populations like seniors and provide them with nourishing fresh fruits and vegetables.
