FROM STAFF REPORTS

HARPERSVILLE — All Harpersville police officers, 11 in total, have tested negative for COVID-19, including Police Chief Jimmy Macon, who previously tested positive for the virus.

On June 15, the department announced that Macon had tested positive, and quarantine for the entire department ensued. Town officials were immediately notified, and testing was encouraged for all employees who were in close contact with the police department on or prior to June 15. The building was professionally cleaned and sanitized the next day.

Meanwhile, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office assisted the town during the quarantine.

“The Harpersville Police Department is fully operational,” stated a press release from the town. “We offer our sincerest appreciation to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for assisting the town of Harpersville.”
