All Shelby County school districts rank highly statewide

All four Shelby County area public school districts rank highly statewide, with Hoover City Schools leading the pack at No. 4, according to the Niche 2020 Best School Districts in Alabama rankings.

Following are Pelham City Schools at No. 14, Alabaster City Schools at No. 19 and Shelby County Schools at No. 20.

School district rankings are determined by academics, teachers, clubs and activities, administration, food, diversity, college prep, health and safety, sports, and resources and facilities.

Following is information on each individual district:

 

Hoover City Schools

Rank: No. 4

Overall Niche grade: A+

Enrollment: 14,027

Overall student-teacher ratio: 15:1

Math proficiency percentage: 70

Reading proficiency percentage: 65

Average graduation rate: 94 percent

Average SAT score: 1280

Average ACT score: 27

 

Pelham City Schools

Rank: No. 14

Overall Niche grade: A

Enrollment: 3,206

Overall student-teacher ratio: 18:1

Math proficiency percentage: 54

Reading proficiency percentage: 53

Average graduation rate: 93 percent

Average SAT score: 1250

Average ACT score: 26

 

Alabaster City Schools

Rank: No. 19

Overall Niche grade: A

Enrollment: 6,116

Overall student-teacher ratio: 18:1

Math proficiency percentage: 55

Reading proficiency percentage: 54

Average graduation rate: 97 percent

Average SAT score: 1070

Average ACT score: 25

 

Shelby County Schools

Rank: No. 20

Overall Niche grade: A

Enrollment: 20,539
