COLUMBIANA – The Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana is offering residents opportunities this summer to enjoy the great outdoors.
Two new events have been planned: Day on Lay on June 27, and The Great Family Stay-Cay July 3-5.
4-H Center Interim Manager Kristy Abrams said the staff came up with ideas for the events after the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic slowed the usual traffic.
“When the virus hit, it kind of shut down all of our school business and summer camps, and we were just looking for ways to get folks to visit,” Abrams said. “We’re just trying to rethink what we’re doing right now and protect everybody.”
The result was family-oriented, outdoors event that will surely be appreciated because social distancing guidelines can be maintained.
Employees are also taking extra caution to keep common areas and surfaces sanitized, Abrams said.
Day on Lay will last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
For $20 per person, visitors will be provided lunch and various activities including viewing birds of prey, amphibians and reptiles; canoeing and paddleboarding; and more.
From July 3-5, guests can spend even more time enjoying all the 4-H Center has to offer.
The Great Family Stay-Cay offers rates of $150 per night for a hotel room or $130 per night for a dorm, for a family of four.
A continental breakfast and all activities are included in the cost, and lunch and dinner can be purchased on-site for reasonable prices.
Amenities include the center’s pool, paddle boarding and canoeing, mini golf, live animal encounters, a campfire, movie night on the vista and spending time outdoors with your family.
Activities will be open at certain times, and visitors will be free to come and go as they please.
Registration for both events can be completed at Alabama4HCenter.org or from the center’s Facebook page.
An initial round of Day on Lay and Great Family Stay-Cay have already been held, on June 4 and June 15-17, respectively.
