Ralph Daniel Usry, 74, of Pensacola, Florida passed away peacefully Thursday, May 21.
Ralph was born in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University of Virginia Hospital to Ralph L. Usry and Carolyn Purvis Usry of Shipman, Virginia. The family lived in Alexandria, Virginia near Washington, DC until he finished high school. The railroad transferred his father to Greensboro, North Carolina and due to the timing Ralph decided to attend college in Alabama near his paternal grandmother (Mrs. Lois Hollingsworth Usry Thompson.)
After graduating with a BS in Accounting he began his business career with A.M. Pullen (auditor) followed by Carolina Steel (accountant) both in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ralph left Carolina Steel for Fontaine Truck Equipment Co in Birmingham (assistant controller, Controller) The company decentralized and each part became a separate company he chose Fontaine Fifthwheel (Controller, V.P. of Sales and Marketing, Executive Vice-President, and finishing his career at Fontaine as President). After Fontaine he was General Manager of Day Plywood in Cuthbert, Georgia and CFO of Bermco Aluminum in Birmingham. He left Bermco due to illness in 2005.
Ralph was a lover of many sports especially football. He kept statistics of Auburn sports, players and recruiting as well as the Washington Redskins and Texas Rangers (formerly known as Washington Senators.)
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his stepmother, Ann C. Usry.
He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Tommie Warren Usry of Pensacola, Florida; his aunt, Rebecca Purvis Turner of Virginia; his cat, Claudia Jean Craig Usry (CJ); brother-in-law, Russell Warren (Renee) of Pensacola, Florida; nephew, RD Warren II (Paula) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; nieces, Rachael Warren of Charlotte, North Carolina and Calla Warren Flavin (Rob) of Tampa, Florida; great-nephew, Trey Warren and great-niece, Charlotte Warren of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
No service is planned at this time due to social distancing. A memorial service for the family may be held in the future. There will be a link sent out on Facebook to a website so you can share funny stories and memories about Ralph if you like.
