NORTH SHELBY – Asbury United Methodist Church will reopen its drive-thru food pantry on Wednesday, June 17.

Organizers are asking for donations of food and hygiene items in anticipation of a larger-than-normal influx of customers.

Food donations can include canned meats, canned or plastic jars of pasta sauce, dry pasta noodles, plastic jars of peanut butter, plastic containers of jelly, canned or plastic containers of fruit, boxes of cereal, canned soups, bags of rice, canned vegetables and individually packaged peanut butter or cheese crackers.

Items needed for hygiene kits include shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent, fabric softener, paper towel rolls, four-packs of toilet paper, spray cleaner (e.g. Fantastik, 409), feminine products, disposable diapers and baby wipes.

Items can be dropped off outside the food pantry doors Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Asbury UMC is located at 6690 Cahaba Valley Road.

Anyone who cannot drop off items at the church can email Robyn White at rwhite@asburyonline.org to make other arrangements.

To make a monetary donation, go to Pushpay.com/g/asburyonline and select “Food Pantry.”

The Asbury UMC Food Pantry started in 2011 and is a self-sufficient program that relies on donations from church members and funding from Asbury’s Missions in Action program.
